Happy Thanksgiving from NHOA

We have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, starting with you!  With your support, our Ombudsmen have walked through the doorway of over 100 long-term care homes more than 3,600 times so far this year!  Each visit allows the Ombudsman to sit at the bedside of residents, hear their concerns, and advocate on their behalf.  Thank you for sharing our Facebook posts, getting involved with legislative advocacy, and making gifts to support our mission.
We’re also grateful to our Ombudsmen, who go above and beyond to ensure more than 5,600 residents have a friend and confidant.  Last month, one Ombudsman brought in his wife’s good (very good) chili to share with residents. This summer, an Ombudsman paid for a resident to have her hair done because she didn’t have enough money.  One of our crafty Ombudsmen repaired a resident’s sewing machine!  Thank you to our Ombudsmen for improving the quality of care for these residents!

Last but never least, we are thankful to have a group of dedicated Friendly Visitor volunteers sitting at the bedside of residents with no one to visit them.  Each year, these volunteers reconnect isolated nursing home residents with the community they built.  They read the newspaper, write Christmas cards, and share a meal with their new friend.  They visit on holidays, when a nursing home feels empty because so many other residents leave the celebrate with family.  Thank you to our Friendly Visitors for being a friend to those who need it most.

What are you thankful for this year?
